House Bill 1419 allows minor, non-violent cases to be automatically sealed from public view after time has passed without conviction of a felony or a misdemeanor. For misdemeanors, that period is 10 years. For summary offenses, it is 5 years. Non-convictions would be sealed when the outcome of the case is final. Offenses sealed under HB 1419 need not be reported to employers, landlords, colleges, or others, nor may they be used to deny state occupational licenses. The bill was signed by Governor Wolf on June 28, 2018 as Act 56 of 2018.
