Springettsbury Township issued protesters a $3000 bill for security costs arising from a 25-person march. The ACLU obtained a preliminary injunction preventing the Township from collecting on the bill. Trial was scheduled for April 2005, but has been stayed pending the Judge’s decision on Defendant’s Motion arguing that the case is moot because they have amended the ordinance to eliminate the security fees. On May 16, 2005, the Court denied the Defendants motion to dismiss, ruling that our claims were still relevant because the alleged constitutional problems remained in the new ordinance. The parties are attempting to negotiate a settlement. A status call with Judge Kane is scheduled for Sept. 15, 2005.
